A striking statement of status, identity, and inner peace, this exceptional Whakakai (slab-style) pendant has been masterfully hand-sculpted by artisan carver Dion.
This piece is carved from Īnanga Pounamu, one of the most traditional and highly prized varieties of New Zealand greenstone. Named for its resemblance to the pale, milky coloration of the native freshwater minnow (īnanga), this jade is celebrated for its soft, ethereal beauty. In resting light the stone displays a classic, pearly seafoam-grey base accented by deep, graphite mineral plumes framing its edges. When backlit by natural sunlight, as beautifully captured in images the stone undergoes a breathtaking shift, illuminating from within and glowing with a vibrant, translucent pear-green clarity.
Measuring approximately 6cm x 2.5cm, the jade has been sliced into a strong, clean rectangular form featuring crisp, architecturally notched shoulders. It is bound with an intricate, heavy black cross-over lashing that frames the top of the piece, tapering into a durable, hand-plaited adjustable black neckline cord.
